What inspired you to write the first story? How did you get the idea?I first got the idea when I was talking to my sister and her husband one day about politics. It was during the Brexit debates in Parliament, when the parliamentary mace had been lifted in protest. That was when I learned about the mace's role and I thought it would make a great mystery story if it went missing. You can find out more about the inspiration for the book in my blog.

What did you most enjoy about writing the book and what was the most challenging part?I really enjoyed getting to know my characters. The first book has been a discovery for me about who they are, where they come from and what they want. I always find the characters the most interesting part of any story. Stories are about people, after all. Definitely the most challenging part was going into lockdown during the research and writing of the book. I have written about the difficulty that caused me on my blog. I had planned to spend a lot more time in Westminster, but that became impossible because of lockdown restrictions. But it did help me to use my imagination and I think that worked out really well for the book.
